The Hundred of Hoo Academy is a gracious and scholarly school that is committed to transforming children’s lives through world class teaching and extra-curricular opportunities. We believe that children and adults flourish when they learn and work as members of a supportive, cohesive community built on high expectations, rigour, mutual respect and pride in their own and each other’s achievements.

We believe that:

3.     Children should be equipped with values, attitudes and attributes that will serve them well in university,         the workplace and in their life

We are a disciplined Academy, where pupils thrive in a culture defined by mutual respect and impeccable behaviour. We unashamedly focus on academic excellence and focus on every child achieving highly in subjects that will serve them well beyond school and into the next stage of their education and into their careers. 

We have an uncompromising culture of no excuses, and we insist on high standards for staff and pupils. We mean this, we follow it and we refer to it every day because we believe in it.  Every pupil matters, every pupil can achieve, every lesson counts. The ‘Hoo Way’ is to develop World Class teaching in line with a precision teaching model that embeds consistently high standards at all times while retaining autonomy to develop our own learning experiences for pupils in lessons.

Throughout our teaching methodologies we commit to ensuring every pupil is consistently provided with the opportunities to equip themselves with the values and attributes that will support them when faced with future challenges and experiences. This commitment is underpinned by our unrelenting drive to master our teaching crafts through high quality professional development programmes and regular supportive observation and feedback opportunities.

We continue to develop our teaching provision by drawing on the resources and experiences of the Trust family of schools, and as a result of our work as a Teaching School, through the Medway Teaching School Alliance. We are convinced that reflection is the key to professional improvement and maturity, and we actively support this process, so that every teacher becomes resilient, enthusiastic and inspirational. As such, research and coaching are vital elements of our professional learning programmes; adding value to the bespoke nature of our support for staff in an environment where talent is actively identified and nurtured. The Academy’s professional development opportunities are designed to ensure staff have opportunities to access, adopt and refine world class teaching strategies in our classrooms so that we continue to inspire all of our pupils.
