Home Study

Pupils attending The Hundred of Hoo are expected to undertake independent study at home to both consolidate their understanding of the material they are taught in lessons and develop their own organisational skills. Independent study consists of:

  • Home Study Tasks set by teachers on Show My Homework to provide opportunities to practice and master skills and apply their understanding
  • Independent revision selt-initiated by pupils in preparation for assessments, milestones and external examinations

It is crucial that pupils are provided with a quiet working space away from the academy to support completion of high quality Home Study Tasks and Independent Revision. Materials to support pupils in the completion of their independent learning can be found on the 'Home Study' and 'Independent Revison' links.

Home study set will consist of:

Key Stage 3 Minimum of one 30 minute Independent study task per subject per week
Key Stage 4 Minimum of one 60 minute Independent study task per subject per week
Key Stage 5 Frequent higher order Independent study tasks for all subjects

The range of tasks that may be required:

Reading Researching
Completing practise or exam style questions Creative tasks
Milestone Assessments Revision

The Academy operates an Home Study Club in the Library Monday to Thursday from 3.00pm to 4.00pm.  This is for pupils who wish to stay behind to receive help to complete tasks or for those that are unable to access the Show my Homework website from home. We also run a lunchtime Home Study Club Tuesday to Thursday from 13:15 - 13:40.
