Remembrance 'Lest We Forget'

'Lest we forget'

Between Monday 6th and Friday 10th of November the Academy theme was ‘Remembrance. Throughout this week pupils from year 7 to 11 delivered assemblies to all years within the primary and secondary phases. Whilst previous years have focused on ‘animals at war’ and ‘The history of the poppy’, this year’s focus was on ‘Boy soldiers’.

Mr Carey and Mr Sims put out adverts in the RAF, Army and Navy magazines across The UK, hoping to find someone from the local area who had been a ‘boy soldier’. To our delight, Mr Alan Mudge responded! He gave us the story shared by many who were enlisted into the army despite being under age.

Whilst Alan and his wife unfortunately could not attend our assemblies, their stories were great as an example of people doing their duty for our community.

Special thanks must go to Reverend Smith for his part in every assembly, and also to the following pupils for delivering the assembly: Emma Hales, Ella Archer, Robert Elliot, Tegan Rimmington, Serena Saka, Faye Button, Sean Soper, Ella McQuiggan, Jack Donald, Zak Sparks, Eleanor Kitto, Trinitiy Thompson, Hannah Matthews, Shannon Machin and Amelia Cottle.

Without all of their hard work, these assemblies would not have been possible.
